What are the components of a roofline?

The descriptions uPVC, PVCu and PVCue are used to describe PVC fascia boards, soffit boards and bargeboards. The “u” stands of unplasticised and means that the components are not pliable. Expanded or foamed PVC boards are lighter, stronger and thicker than an equivalent rigid PVC board.
The box end

This fascia board is the one mounted at the point where the roof meets the outer walls of the building. This boundary forms the roofline but is often referred to as the fascia.

Fascia
The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. It is fixed directly to the lower ends of the roof trusses and usually supports the lower edge of the bottom row of tiles. It also carries all the guttering. As a result, this component should be both strong and durable as it needs to support several gallons of water during heavy rains.
Bargeboard
The bargeboard is used on the gable end of a building. The condition of this component can make or break the look of a house. This component is available in a variety of shapes and styles.
Soffit
The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board and is usually the board that is visible from street level. This component can be ventilated to allow the flow of air into the roof area. Ventilation can also be provided over the top of the fascia board which is the preferred solution for most customers. Ventilation can reduce problems arising from condensation, such as timber decay.
Boxend
The boxend is a work of art as it accommodates the many different angles, planes and heights of the fascia boards, soffit boards and bargeboards at each corner of the house where there is a gable end.

Maintaining your guttering

A guttering system is another important component of the roofline as it provides drainage to the roof. Keeping your guttering clean is essential to ensure that your roof doesn’t suffer from problems such as water logging, condensation and moss and lichen accumulation.

Our experts can clean the debris and clutter in your guttering, repair any damage or replace the entire system based on your requirements. They can also offer you valuable advice to help ensure that your guttering is maintained in good condition.
